STREAM Final Conference in Venice

Project main results and achievements in the field of flood management were presented in a Conference hedl In Venice on 24 May, 2023

The Final Conference of project STREAM was held in Venice, on May 24 with the purpose of presenting  all the results, activities, and achievements of project STREAM and its potential contribution in the area of future flood management. In particular, the conference wanted to show how the project contributed to improve the technologies of the early warning and monitoring systems and to enhance the capacity of the emergency services to promptly react to flood events. 

It was attend by 80 participants. Among them there were representatives of the project partners’ institutions, technicians, meteorologists, researchers, civil protection officers and the general public.  It was also live stremead on youTube at https://youtube.com/live/jyfEacD6MY0

Participants were welcomed by the Vice Mayor of the City of Venice, Andrea Tomaello and the Director of ZADRA NOVA, Marina Dujmović Vuković, who both highlighted the relevance of the project for the involved territories. 

After the introductory session, Silvia Comiati from the Interreg IT- HR Joint Secretariat gave a presentation on the topic of “The Interreg IT-HR Programme: Supporting cross border cooperation on Climate change Resilience – results from the 2014-2020 period and future perspectives”. Mia Perica from ZADRA NOVA - Lead partner presented the main project results and achievements. The sessions that followed discussed activities that were part of the official project work packages, namely, Creating Flood Knowledge Documents, Development of Innovative Technologies and Systems of Flood Forecasting and Early Warning System, and finally, the presentation of activities and results related to the nine Pilot sites of project STREAM in both Italy and Croatia.

The final conference of the STREAM project represented a vital opportunity to present the results obtained through the specific project activities and discuss the future challenges related to coastal risk management. With the increasing frequency of flooding along the Adriatic coasts due to climate change, it becomes crucial to adopt long-term preventive measures. The conference underlined the importance of collaborating between coastal cities to share experiences and knowledge, in order to ensure the safety of citizens and successfully face future challenges affecting the Adriatic Sea.
