The Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea - Ports of Trieste and Monfalcone, Lead partner of PROMARES, presented the project at the workshop: “NEW USES OF DRONES IN THE PORT AREAS - PASSPORT PROJECT”, held in Ravenna on May 20th, 2022.

The workshop was dedicated to the presentation of the H2020 project “PASSPORT - Operational Platform managing a fleet of semi-autonomous drones exploiting GNSS high Accuracy and Authentication to improve Security & Safety in port areas". The PASSPORT project is funded by the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA), under the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. The purpose of the PASSPORT is to engineer and qualify a solution extending situational awareness to improve safety and security in port areas.

Although the PASSPORT and PROMARES projects focus on different themes, both benefit greatly from information and communication technologies (ICT).

PROMARES highlighted that the deployment of web-based ICT solutions is a key to improve the overall logistics processes providing operators, both from public and private sector, with a reliable, effective and efficient real time information management system.

ADSPMAO stressed this concept with the implementation of two pilots:

  • Creation of a new module of the PCS Sinfomar dedicated to the management of the movement of goods between external Free Zone areas outside the Port of Trieste, using data from existing cameras both for rail and road transportation to ensure the traceability of goods.
  • Extension of the PCS Sinfomar to manage the external buffer areas belonging to the zone under the control of the Port Network Authority of the Easter Adriatic Sea.

The event was a fruitful opportunity to imagine and discuss how new technological equipment, such as drones or cameras, along with dedicated ICT solutions, can improve the action of Ports in different areas of their activities.
