The ARGOS project achieved another important cooperation milestone with the organisation of the second cross-border exchange and training labs in Croatia.

The exchange took place on last March in Zadar, Šibenik and Split area (from 14th to 16th) and involved more than 30 among Italian and Croatian fishers and aquaculture farmers, beyond the project partners.

The visit developed over three days in which the operators and partners’ team visited laboratories of IOF in Split, where the group participating the event was split in two parts, one involved in a workshop about aquaculture best practices and another one regarding the exchange of best practices in fisheries.

In Nin, another study visit was held at the processing plant of Cromaris firm, where a tour of the hatchery was made, then the group of fishermen and aquaculture operator were brought to Poličnik for a study visit of a new laboratory with new equipment funded by ARGOS.

The day after, in Šibenik, due to bad weather and sea condition was not possible to have another study visit, as programmed.

During the visits, researchers transferred to operators the importance of the monitoring of ichthyic stocks, as well as best practices for the diversification of traditional fishing and aquaculture activities, to promote sustainable practices to reduce the pressure of catches and exploitation of marine resources in the Adriatic.

Lastly, the exchange has been the occasion to share ideas and know-how among Italian and Croatian operators, not only to boost the unique features of the Adriatic fishing communities but also to transfer best approaches and responsible behaviours towards more and more sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.
