On Sunday 28 May, the Abruzzo Region's pilot project within the Firespill project ended with an outdoor activity on the beach in the town of Pineto.

After a classroom training session, groups of Abruzzo civil protection volunteers took part in a simulated intervention along the coast, with the setting up of the structures and equipment necessary to carry out the intervention and the testing of personal protective equipment for the operators.

The exercise focused on all the emergency phases: from the identification of a hypothetical intervention scenario, to the coordination and transfer of information between all the actors involved, to the engagement of volunteers, to the definition and organisation of specific procedures (inspection, initial briefing, finding materials and equipment and setting up the operational module, etc.), up to the identification of the storage methods for the recovered product.

This Specialized exercise on coastal clean-up activities following oil spills strengthened the skills of the actors of the emergency management system.
