As part of the Science Festival, on May 13, 2021, an Adswim workshop “Do you sea?” focused on methods of checking the quality of wastewater and sea water in the testing laboratories of the Institute of Public Health was presented to high school students in Zadar, Croatia.

The European project AdSWiM Italy - Croatia monitors and ensures seawater quality standards to protect bathers' health and marine habitat using innovative techniques. Since 2019, the mission includes 6 research institutes, 3 wastewater treatment companies, 2 municipalities and 1 Institute of Public Health with the aim of regional harmonization of urban wastewater improvement strategies.

As part of the Science Festival, on May 13, 2021, the Institute of Public Health Zadar in cooperation with Odvodnja d.o.o. through the workshop “Do you Sea?” presented to high school students, under the guidance of Professor Marin Prtenjača, methods of checking the quality of wastewater and sea water in the testing laboratories of the Institute of Public Health.  At the wastewater treatment plant, the technology and importance of biological, chemical and physical wastewater treatment processes were introduced to the students.

The AdSWiM project used innovative granulation technology, i.e. the connection of selected microorganisms in granular form ( partner Metris Centar, Pula), developed biosensors for selective determination of the presence of heavy metals in water (Italian partners IC-CnR and Politecnic University of Marche, and advanced photo disinfection technology based on synthesis of new photoactive materials is additionally included for wastewater treatment (partner University of Udine).

New strategies for wastewater management and protection marine environment have been developed in Italy and Croatia through the cooperation of the Udine municipal water treatment company, CAFC, the Split municipal company Vodovod i kanalizacija (VIK), the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy in Split, the municipality of Pescara and the municipality of Udine and the Institute of Public Health Zadar.

The partners of the European project "AdSWiM" are: the University of Udine (lead partner),  the CAFC - Friuli Centrale Aqueduct Consortium (IT), the OGS - National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (IT),  the Polytechnic University of Marche (IT), the IC-NRC, Institute of Crystallography - National Research Council (IT),  the Municipality of Pescara (IT), the Institute of Public Health Zadar (HR), Izvor Ploče (HR), ViK Vodovod i kanalizacija Split (HR), the Metris Center for Materials Research of the Istrian County ),  the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy (HR).
